At Temporary Home Pet Rescue, we don’t have a physical shelter – we rely on our amazing network of foster families to give animals the love and care they need while they wait for their forever homes. Fostering is one of the most rewarding ways you can make a real difference in the life of a pet and in your community.

Many animals simply need some extra one-on-one time, a stable routine, and a loving environment to prepare them for adoption. Fostering provides that opportunity without a long-term commitment, and we’re here to help make it easy and enjoyable for you.

What You Can Expect When You Foster

  • Personalized Matching: We’ll work with you to choose a foster animal that fits your home, lifestyle, and experience. Whether you’re an experienced pet owner or new to fostering, we’ll make sure you feel comfortable with your foster pet.
  • No Financial Worries: All veterinary costs for your foster pet are covered by Temporary Home Pet Rescue. We’ll also provide essential supplies such as food, bowls, litter boxes, and toys. The only thing we ask is that foster families help transport their foster pet to and from adoption events. (Mileage is not reimbursed, but it may be tax-deductible!)
  • A Loving Home Environment: Fostering means offering a safe and loving environment where your foster pet can thrive. This includes socialization, playtime, exercise, and general care, just as you would for your own pet. Your love and attention are the most important gifts you can provide.
  • Updates and Feedback: We’ll ask for regular updates – photos, videos, and feedback on how your foster pet is adjusting. Your insights are invaluable as we work together to find the perfect forever home for them.

Frequently Asked Questions About Fostering

How long will I have my foster for?

Foster pets stay in their homes until they find their forever family. This can take anywhere from a week to several months, depending on the pet and their needs. If you’re only able to commit for a short-term foster—such as a weekend or a week—we welcome that too! No commitment is too small, and every bit helps.

How much time does fostering require?

Fostering requires you to provide basic care for your foster pet, which includes feeding, exercise, a safe place to sleep, and teaching basic manners. Some pets may need more attention (like kittens or puppies), while others may be more independent. Additionally, we ask that fosters attend at least two adoption events per month to help showcase their pet and connect with potential adopters. These events are held several times a month, and we’ll work with you on scheduling!

I don’t have any pet supplies. What should I do?

Don’t worry! We’ve got you covered. Temporary Home Pet Rescue will provide all the essential supplies, including a starter bag of food, toys, bowls, and a litter box. However, because we are entirely donation-funded, any additional donations you can contribute are greatly appreciated, though not required.

What else will I need to do as a foster?

We ask our fosters to help spread the word about their foster pet! Sharing posts and pictures on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, as well as community sites like Craigslist and Nextdoor, is a great way to increase visibility. Your creativity and network can make a huge difference in finding the perfect family for your foster!
